Peter Ellis is a Design Partner of SOM Chicago. He is a member of the US Green Building Council, and a founding member of the World Green Building Council, which links the many sustainable organizations throughout the world, Fundamentally, he believes that sustainability is the springboard to create a meaningful architecture for our time.

Mr. Ellis is best known for capturing the relationship between contemporary architecture and the distinct urban fabric of great historic cities. This concern for contextualism and urban continuity translate to his work which includes the Maya Residences in Istanbul, Turkey; the Kirchsteigfeld complex in Potsdam, Germany and the recently completed MYE Toronto project in Canada.

Having collaborated with diverse teams and clients throughout his career has resulted in many signature buildings throughout the world. Mr. Ellis has received national recognition as a designer of the Philips Centre in Amsterdam, The Netherlands which received the 2002 AIA Distinguished Building Award and for the signature AT&T and US Gypsum Towers at AT&T Center in Chicago which were praised by Paul Goldberger, the New York Times architecture critic, as "the most significant" new office towers in the City, "buildings that stand with the best" of Chicago's historic architecture. The US Gypsum Tower was also cited by the Wall Street Journal as one of the ten most valuable real estate assets in the country.
